Serpentine Honey

(Photograph by Muhammed Muheisen)
A street performer uses a snake in his act on a road near Islamabad, Pakistan.

I do not know the provenance of this photo, unfortunately. I tried using TinEye,
to no avail. Anyhow, it makes me inordinately happy to see such a tiny snake
(and his giant friend, the berry.) Sometimes we see these [...]

Krew du Poüx!

Hello, hello! Many apologies for the long absence
and all the tumbleweeds drifting around these parts!
I am returned from my travels, which proved far too
fun and chaotically action-packed to do any of the
updates I had anticipated. In fact, I barely had time
to flick a finger towards my laptop – which was
remarkably freeing! Now I am come [...]

Disko Tease

Just a tease of photos from the last Gadjo Disko, from my friend
Chip Warren. I was so excited that he brought his camera, and
documented some of the magic of the night! More will be forth-
coming, but I’m having some technical difficulties and frantically
trying to get ready to hit the road for Mardi Gras! I can’t [...]

NOLA Bounce at SXSW!

Hey y’all – I wanted to share this information from my friend Jay
about our endeavor to bring a bevy Of New Orleans Bounce artists
to Austin for SXSW. Please help us make it happen!
There’s a link to the Kickstarter page in his letter below-
it would mean so much to a lot of amazing people if
you could [...]

Magic Windows #8

Magic Windows are portals into the strange and beautiful
world I inhabit, and the marvelous people, places and things
come across in my day to day – all captured with the aid
of my handy magic celephone (it’s an iPhone).
I often take pictures of things I see while
I’m at work at Uncommon Objects, an emporium of
wondrous and rare [...]

Indigo Honey

I adore this image captured in Coco Chanel’s gorgeously appointed
apartment in Paris. What a dream come true, to explore her domain!
I dreamt the other night that a was drinking Chanel No. 5
out of a big teacup. In my dreams, I have
a golden indigo lacquered screen like that!.
(p.s. I just noticed that the [...]

Autumnal Perfumes

Due to the seasonal lag caused by my propinquity to the equator
and global warming, it’s really just barely beginning to feel like a
true autumn. The leaves here do change color a bit, though nothing
so stunning as what the lucky folks up north get. Still, it pleases me
to see the sumac and pears turning red and [...]

Huexoloti Honey

Turkeys are such strange birds. Ugly-beautiful,
and regal-ridiculous. Have you ever seen one flying wild?
It’s like a giant feathered cannonball shot through the woods.
Hilarious and shocking. We saw wild turkeys in Osyka Springs,
Mississippi when we used to go camping there. They are huge!
I feel bad about it, but I’m going to eat one today. [...]

Unicorn Magic

I just realized how little time I have to get my act together regarding
my Halloween costume! I think I have mostly everything I need,
provided my bustier arrives in time – fingers crossed!
I am on the hunt for the perfect eyelashes, but I’m not
even certain that what I want exists anywhere.
I’ll bet Miss Doe Deere would [...]

Midnight Honey

“Gypsy Interiors is a series of portraits capturing the private world of these outwardly loud,
vivacious people. Here he finds a rich and profound intimacy, hidden but exhibited among
antique furniture, tapestries, paintings, religious images, china, staircases and mirrors,
set into large rooms or sometimes minimized in empty spaces waiting to be filled.
Images of women sitting on elegant [...]
