Gadjo Disko is ending because one of our glorious triumverate, Mack –
who you all know from his inimitable pizazz and fabulosity at the door,
is moving to SF! We will miss him enormously, and there’s no way it
could happen without him. The three of us (myself, Chesley and Mack)
have worked really hard to make Gadjo Disko what it is, and it’s been
an amazing experience. It breaks our hearts, too – but this is the way
it’s gotta be, at least for the time being. Hopefully we’ll be doing more
events in the future though – I can’t imagine us not putting on parties!

Can we just take a minute to revel in the glory of Mackling’s magical
tiger boots? I really need to somehow find a pair in my size. Stunning.

This was taken kind of late in the evening, after many smushings had
smudged my Peking Opera macquillage and my blue weave had been
ditched. There are fresher versions here and here though, if you prefer!

My friend Steve Brudniak is an amazing artist, as well as being a demon
on the dance-floor! Check his work out – it will blow your mind, promise.

These guys are Computer Jesus Refrigerator, and I love them.

I love this girl’s dark green eyes, and lavender hair and sparkly jewels
and well – pretty much everything about her! Who is she I wonder?

So excited for this next one- I need to dance dance dance very soon!

Yesterday morning, however- I was totally despondent to realize
upon waking that the Bat for Lashes concert here was completely sold out!
Horrors and woe accompanied me to the shop, where I cobbled together
a little box of treasure and good-luck talismans- as a gift of thanks
on the off-chance that Miss Natasha should wander in.
Imagine my amazement when about an hour later she did just that!
What a lovely and kind lady- she hugged me and made me the happiest
creature in the world as she listened to my sad tale and generously
offered to put me on the guestlist! Oh frabjous day- calloo callay!
How incredible is that? Very. What a lucky girl I am!

♡ The show was phenomenal. Excellent sound, a respectful crowd, and
she and her band sounded marvelous. I highly recommend catching them live
if you get the chance- they really do put on a fantastic live show.
Also, her drummer is a bad-ass. I love amazing girl drummers so much.
The new album is just lovely- totally my soundtrack lately.

♡ Lately we’ve been seeing some astoundingly beautiful sunsets-
they stain the world cotton candy grapefruit soda pink and lilac fluff,
and I take a million swirly photos trying to capture their majesty.

♡ I love getting surprise visits from my fairy-godson Sascha and his
lovely maman the elf. We went on a walk, hunting for rainbows.
He is the elfin prince child of my heart and now he can say words! Conversations, ahoy!

♡ I’ve been pretty obsessed with M.A.C. gold eyeshadow, and have been
gilding my eyelids most days. Wearing a vintage gold dress that smells funny,
and jewelry from Lux Revival. This was taken hurriedly before the concert,
so forgive the overexposure, one day I’ll actually buy a low-light lense.
I need some photography equipment guidance! Anyone want to be my tech-sherpa?

♡ I saw both Moon and District 9 recently, and both were incredible. Go see!
They showed the 1969 original video for David Bowie’s Space Oddity
at the Alamo before the previews, and I realized I’d never seen it before!
Can you even handle how nerd-sexy he is? Those crooked teeth
make my pants feel funny. I have a thing for dental deformities.

♡ I ordered some goodies from Korres recently, (using the iCiNG discount,
thanks Miss Darling!) and am excited to try everything out.
The company started in an ancient Greek homeopathic pharmacy,
and they don’t use any synthetic components, so I’m very intrigued.

♡ I can’t wait to be cleaning my filth palace and dancing this weekend at
Smack! and the Micro-Nano Party at Cheer Up Charlie’s!

♡ The other night I was laying in the hammock, staring at the moon,
and I saw these big, pale bats flying overhead. They are much larger
than the mexican freetails, and sort of buff colored- I think they’re called
Pallid Bats. I’m so excited that they have made Grackle Grotto their home!

I can’t even express how excited I am about this show-
so many incredible people have come together to make it happen,
it’s really kind of mind-blowing. I can’t wait to see the show!
Please do come, if you are able- and spread the word!

This ensemble was my favorite so far- even though I destroyed that lacy
chemise, and that rubber corset mutilated my solar plexus!
It was exciting being a blonde for a night, and the antlered crown
that Miss Annie Alonzi created for my birthday was so comfortable
to wear and dance in all night- I didn’t even poke anyone’s eye out!
I sewed a bustle and skirt just hours before the party, and everything
came out perfectly- I was so pleased! Oh yes, so hopefully no one here
is offended by boobies- and if you are, well- you’re probably in the wrong
part of the forest! It’s actually legal for ladies in Austin, Texas to go entirely
topless, if they choose to. We saw lots of biker ladies with their tatas out,
flying in the breeze during the weekend’s biker rally! I think it’s great.

Speaking of, The Brass Ovaries performed a pretty mind-blowing act for us!
Above is Miss Austin Lee (aka. Thunderpuss) performing some gravity-defying dancing,
she’s really quite amazing! For anyone that might write pole-dancing off
as cunning stunts for bored strippers, I will point you to this snippet,
from the headmistress of the Brass Ovaries, Miss Natasha:

in tighty-whities, oh my! Wish I had me some decent photos of that!)

“Pole dancing came to modern fame through 1950s burlesque clubs
and today in gentlemen’s clubs but the dance evolved from yoga
performed on a wooden pole and on rope. Known as Mallakhamb,
it is a competitive sport in India where gymnasts perform
feats and poses while hanging from a pole or rope.”

Ah, Mlle. Alisan in her pavonine splendor! So happy this lady is my neighbor now!
She is a sculptor who tells me funny stories about living in France + Japan..
We went and jumped in the springs today and drank fancy juice and it was such bliss!
We were so sore from dancing, but the healing waters cured us- it’s really quite miraculous.

Some of my favorite portraits I’ve taken at Gadjo Disko are couples, or pairs.
Lots of people end up falling in love, or hooking up- and some have even conceived
because of the good-lovin’ vibe at the Disko! It’s a fact- meet Colette!
Something about the interactions captured really charms me, particularly
these ladies, Mattie + Penny (formerly Pattie, no really!) Clubb.
They are twins, obviously- and both are really awesome,
as you can see, from their fabulous outfits!

Amelia + Guilherme are really the most adorable couple I’ve seen in awhile!
It makes me happy just to be around them. Look at those smiles- swoon!

Frannie + Jonny, oh my goodness! This picture makes me laugh with glee!
The vaudeville belly-dancer belle found Charlie Chaplin and they fell in love- true story.

Jeffie + Sarahfina- ain’t it grand when your favorite people find each other?

This is Sienna + I, at 5am en route to sustenance. When you engage in a truck photoshoot,
you must wear safety glasses, and carry a devil’s claw for good luck! I know the mojo worked,
because I find myself surrounded by such astoundingly wonderful friends!

It’s time for GADJO DISKO, babies!
I’m going to be up late tonight, working on my ensemble-
I’ve got to construct a skirt, since I couldn’t find a suitable one
anywhere- though I did experience a veritable shoe miracle!
I’ll relate the tale in full later- but for now, here’s a few of my favorite
images from the last disko, back in March:

I remember my mother painting details in her intricate collages with touches
of fluorescent tempera paint. She was incorporating bits of her psychedelic youth
in with lonesome cowboys, swirling supernovas, cactus flowers and lost highways.
I loved those colors, and swiped them to paint with every chance I got.
Imagine my delight when I discovered Kryolan’s UV reactive makeup!
It’s amazing to play with- I’ll definitely be experimenting with it more..

My beloved Faith Delphi! She is the cutest elf. She comes from the land
of wet trees and pyramids. She sings songs about her doppelgangers.

Seeing Golem play was so fantastic- I love them.
The singer, Annette, was very pregnant, and belting out songs wearing a sassy red dress.
I don’t know how she managed to play accordion-
but that baby’s going to be a good dancer, I can tell you that much!
They played my favorite Serbian folk dancing song,
which made my night- it’s the most fun ever.

“Lookin’ Cute – Feelin’ Cute” Yes, indeed- he is so beautiful

I love the part near the end when J. drags
Miss Altercation up on stage to show what
she can do! She’s coming to Austin to teach
us all some moves, y’all! I’m so excited-
learning to booty bounce is one of my
all time number one goals. I have so
much awe and respect for those I know
who have mastered the extremely precise
muscle isolation required to make it work!

Sissy Nobby and the Rumpshakers always put me in a good mood!

Just to give you an idea of the kind of spectacle Minor Mishap is capable of..
I can’t wait!

The thing about surgical adhesive is that
you can really be assured of all your eyelashes
and jewels and whatnot staying exactly where
you stuck them, and not budging an inch..

Mistress Stephanie was there in fine form,
she really is just so stunning. Her embroidered
robes were beyond belief. I believe their first album is being
released this week, on Saturday- hooray!

Sweet Franziska performed the most incredible Mongolian Burlesque!
She is such a talented dancer- I love seeing humor and sensuality
blended with good choreography. You can tell when a dancer
truly loves what they do- Frannie was radiant!

Faith Delphi is a total fox.

This guy is my favorite. He was so scary and great!

Miss Amelia was at the disko
looking so splendid that I was doubly shocked when she told me that
her beloved house had burned down that very afternoon! Poor dearie..
Luckily, everyone is okay, including her wee pup Charlotte.
She told me that she managed to save the pink faux fur stole
she made especially for Gadjo Disko! Send her good wishes
and vintage dresses! Hers all smell like smoke and soot..

Lastly, here’s my own true love in a fantastic ensemble of his own making..
He seems to be indicating the way to the great egress…

Oh, and I just found out about Lux Interior!
I can’t believe he’s gone- it’s seems like just yesterday
that I saw him clambering up a bank of speakers
in rubber stockings and stiletto heels. Poor Ivy!

then I feel completely satisfied.
