Serpentine Honey

(Photograph by Muhammed Muheisen)
A street performer uses a snake in his act on a road near Islamabad, Pakistan.

I do not know the provenance of this photo, unfortunately. I tried using TinEye,
to no avail. Anyhow, it makes me inordinately happy to see such a tiny snake
(and his giant friend, the berry.) Sometimes we see these [...]

Snowday!

A very strange thing happened yesterday. Well, strange for Texas -
because after a weekend of blissful balminess and riding bicycles
in the sunshine and shortsleeves, it snowed! All day, big fat fluffy
flakes fluttered down. It was magical, and bizarre. I didn’t believe
the predictions, to be honest. Imagine my amazement to discover
a winter wonderland swathing our garden [...]

New Year’s Redux

Ahoy! New photos have surfaced from our New Year’s Eve adventures
in the Texas Hill Country, from Mr. Chip Warren, esteemed gentleman
and fantastic photographer. Following are a handful of my favorites,
but the full set can be seen here: Hill Country New Years 2009

I love the shots he captured of our exploits with fireworks.
Dazzling! It was [...]

Stargazer Honey

Our New Year’s Eve was truly magical. Despite a rocky start
fraught with Mercury’s meddlings, we managed to create a
really solid camp and the coziest tipi yet! In a pinch, duct tape,
scavenged rope and a random dental tool can be used to
quite ingenious effect – the skin was sewn by Francesca
out of projector screen cloth, and [...]

Indigo Honey

I adore this image captured in Coco Chanel’s gorgeously appointed
apartment in Paris. What a dream come true, to explore her domain!
I dreamt the other night that a was drinking Chanel No. 5
out of a big teacup. In my dreams, I have
a golden indigo lacquered screen like that!.
(p.s. I just noticed that the [...]

Huexoloti Honey

Turkeys are such strange birds. Ugly-beautiful,
and regal-ridiculous. Have you ever seen one flying wild?
It’s like a giant feathered cannonball shot through the woods.
Hilarious and shocking. We saw wild turkeys in Osyka Springs,
Mississippi when we used to go camping there. They are huge!
I feel bad about it, but I’m going to eat one today. [...]

Magic Windows #5

Creepy cute lion babies, you hypnotize me. I cannot look away.
You have me under your power. I will now paint everything I own gold!

We had this giant preserved Alligator Gar specimen in the window at
Uncommon Objects for a little while, before it was snapped up. Wish I’d
gotten a better picture of it when I had [...]

Strange Season

One of the many things I appreciate about Texas weather is
the constant mercurial shifting between extremes. Honestly!
I am, in so many ways, a creature of habit. I can easily get bogged
down in work and routines, so perhaps that has something to do
with my insatiable craving for variety. I require a steady flow of information,
new music, [...]

Magic Windows #3

A quick Magic Windows update from afar,
these are actually all Austin related images
that I’ve been meaning to show you for awhile..
Don’t worry, the New York edition of Magic Windows
is shaping up to be pretty great. Just you wait!

A friend of mine from teenage days recently dug up some pictures
taken by my best friend all throughout [...]

New York Redux circa 2006

Oh my. It’s been a while since I was last in New York.
I just dug up these pictures from the last time I was there,
and I’m flooded by memories of how much fun we had..
Now I’m even more excited about visiting again-
it really is one of my favorite cities, and I feel that we have
and [...]
